While manifesting himself with this inner benevolence, this inner radiation which is called love, the energy of change, he tried in every way to de-crystallize the already crystallized vanity and conceit in people; and this made enemies for him. People forgot what he had done for them in removing their illnesses, their psychic blockages and in personal help, and remembered only their hurt vanity. Indeed, this happened with two of the greatest of Gurdjieff's students, Orage and Ouspensky. Both of these students left Gurdjieff, just when Gurdjieff was trying to show them their latest and greatest ego fault.
